1. You just “swung by” to get some mulch but then somehow all this wound up in your car, too.
2. When the cashier announces the total, you realize it’s the same amount that Oxfam’s fundraising letter said would feed an entire African village for a month.
3. You have trouble shifting gears on the way home because you have a hardy banana plant wedged diagonally in front of the passengers seat. Also, your tiny car is so packed with plants you find pollen in your ears when you get home.
4. Your 8-year-old, who has accompanied you and overhears the total, announces that he is going to “tell Dad” how much you spent when he gets home.
5. You don’t think you’ve spent more on fabulous container plants this month than on food for your family, but you’re not really sure.
If you love plants…it is hard to resist them! Gardening is a great way to restore your sanity and sooth your soul. Being a wife and mother is hard work (you deserve some fun)… and in the end of the day I am sure your family wants you to be happy!
Hear, hear! You’ve got my back, LL!
As for equating money spent on plants to money spent feeding your family, I always think that time spent in the garden is food for the soul. Now how do you put a price on soul nourishment?
There ya go, LC. I like your line of reasoning.
Oh my God, that’s me! Except for the eight year-old…
I guess it’s cheaper than therapy.
Actually, therapy is probably cheaper, at least in the spring! :-). Thanks for reading, Max!
You manage to nail some funny but true points – #1 and #3!! Not that your purchase is really all that much…it’s when you take home 7-8 of one species, plus a few others, trying to beat the winter devouring rabbits and in hope for less convection-oven-heat in June. Ka-ching!
But at least I’m not currently partaking in such frills, being in an apartment and all!
David, a bunch of the stuff I bought was not actually pictured because I planted it as soon as I got home. 🙂 You’re in an apartment now? And I see you have a new blog?
Hello! I could have sworn I’ve been to this site before but after reading through some of the post I realized
it’s new to me. Nonetheless, I’m definitely happy I found it and I’ll be book-marking
and checking back frequently!
Great! Thanks so much Jennifer.
